Words of wisdom from a $10000 a day consultant
I was lucky enough to spend some time recently with one of Australia’s smartest and most esteemed “Strategic Advisors” to the coaching and seminar industry.
Chen Tay actually advises and mentors the coaches that I pay tens of thousands of dollars a year to for advice, so as you can imagine I was pretty happy to shut-up and pay attention when he had something to say!
So, what did I pick up from him that I can share with you? Quite a lot as you might expect, but here are the highlights:
1. To build a great business, be sure to build a great team around you. This includes staff, but also support personnel (ie. virtual assistants, outsourcers, etc), coaches, advisors and a “mastermind group.” The best way to select people here is to be “fighting above your weight” (o,k., I know the ex-gym owner comes out in me a lot!). In other words, look to attract people who are more knowledgable, more experienced, wealthier or more successful than you as your colleagues and mentors so that you are constantly stretched, challenged and growing. Taking a position of “I know it all” and finding lesser mortals to surround yourself with to back this belief up is a personal growth dead end.
2. Create or join a mastermind group. Regular accountablity, ideas and challenges are the fertiliser of success. Why struggle alone when others are there to help, inspire and share the journey?
3. Chen asked me a couple of great questions which really made me stop and think – “If you grew a million dollar business but you didn’t grow with it, what would happen?”
Conversely, “If you experienced massive personal and professional growth, but your business didn’t grow to match that, what would happen?”
Both of these questions resonated with me personally, and for a lot of what I see my clients go through. The answers to this are probably the fundamentals behind whether people become successful in business or not. Im still thinking more on this one, and I urge you to too.
Finally, I came to this profound understanding - Spending 75 bucks to shout some sushi with a $10,000 per day consultant who wants to talk about your business is a very, very wise investment!
Stay tuned for more on how you can get to meet Chen in person – Im negotiating to get him onboard as a speaker.
Have a great day today – and take the time to punch above your weight and connect with someone you can learn something from!

$ 10,000 per day, for me it would be inconceivable.
