2009 flu season, what are your thoughts?

With fall rapidly approaching (in the Northern hemisphere) it seems likely that this year’s flu season has the potential to be devastating should the H1N1 virus become more virulent and combine with seasonal flu. It’s been almost 90 or so years since the Spanish flu of 1918 which killed 50-100 million people, but are we more prepared this time. There is talk of a vaccine being prepared but is this going to be enough, will enough people get it?

We covered swine flu earlier this year but now that the dust has settled it seems like a good time to informally start a discussion with our readers about their thoughts on this years flu’ season. What do you think? Are you confident or worried about the future, what are you doing to remain healthy through the fall and winter?

I am Emily Jones, aged 34. I work for an advertising firm. I have worked very hard to get where I am today. Possibly, striving and struggling for years has made me very complacent and my health has suffered. I seem to have become a chronic sufferer of minor ailments like headaches, frequent colds, digestive problems and other stomach infections. Over the years, my health has declined and my passion for work has declined. Visits to doctors have not helped much. I guess I need to take a break and seek some inner healing. Can someone help?

We’re interested to hear what you think about the idea of Preventative Health? In countries like China and India, there is a lot of focus on preventing illnesses and disease before they happen. But traditionally in the West we have always focused on treating people after they get ill.

Do you think the Government needs to get behind practices that help you to avoid getting certain illnesses? And do you think they should fund research into prevention methods too?
