New generation of researchers is coming through
New funding for health and medical research will be good for medical researchers and good for Australia.
The incoming Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon has taken the welcome step of approving over $124 million in medical research funding. This includes $74.8 million which will support up and coming mid-career researchers who represent the research powerhouse of the future.
“Additional research into areas such as heart disease, cancer, and infectious diseases will significantly boost our ability to prevent and manage serious health conditions,” Rebecca James, CEO of Research Australia said.
“Australians place a high priority on health. Quality health and quality research go hand in hand,” Rebecca James said.
“The vital work of Australian research has saved the lives of millions. The Australian public overwhelmingly supports substantial increased investment in health and medical research with 85% believing health and medical research is an important priority for the Federal Government over the next 2 – 3 years.
