Positives
- Beautiful and refined design
- Gorgeous AMOLED screen
- Battery life “14 days”
- Affordable at $199
- A large amount of customization
Negatives
- No Google Assistant support
The release of wearables continues at a pace that requires me to develop additional arms to test them all and the quality is still impressive. I spent several days with the new Amazfit GTR 4 And he will continue to put it through his paces. It’s an amazing fitness-focused smartwatch that does a lot and lasts for 2 weeks while only being priced $199.99.
Last year we saw GTR 3 and the GTR 3 Pro, both are excellent alternatives to some Best smartwatch picks. While Amazfit watches come with a standard set of smartwatch features, they are ultimately fitness-focused wearables with an impressive amount of personalization metrics and health/wellness tracking.

- Looks fancy for $200
- Gorgeous AMOLED screen
- Microphone and speaker
I’ve been testing a lot of watches lately, including two luxury Google Wear OS watches, so I thought a watch under $200 wouldn’t be that convincing. When I opened the packaging, I was very impressed with the GTR 4’s elegant design features, including the narrow matte bezel with subtle black lines for the minutes around the smooth glass display. The aluminum case looks great with symmetrical ridges on each side and two easily accessible buttons on the right.
The stunning AMOLED touch screen features vivid colors and ultra-high resolution that provide the refined look and detail of various watch faces. There are two buttons on the right side of the watch to help you navigate around the face. The lower top has bezels along the edges and this button acts as a scroll wheel to help you quickly fly up and down the lists of items in the watch program. The long press of the upper button and the standard press of the lower button can be customized according to your preference. I have the top button set to turn on Alexa and the bottom button for workouts.
A stylish looking smart watch at an affordable price. Matthew Miller / ZDNET
The back of the watch has a glossy black plastic back with two attachment points for the magnetically attachable charging cable. The GTR 4 is launched with the latest BioTracker 4.0 PPG sensor that has six LEDs to measure key vitals; Blood oxygen, heart rate, pressure, etc.

There is a microphone and speaker on the GTR 4 so you can use Amazon Alexa and hear the results. Having these essentials also means you can take and receive phone calls from your watch when it’s connected to your phone. You can even listen to music through the speaker if you don’t have a headphone attached.
The standard 22mm silicone strap is very comfortable and seems to be well made as well. The quick-release rivets allow you to easily change straps.
