Joe Scarnici / Leaf Golf, Nikki Guidsch
Hello, friends, and welcome to the Holiday Edition™ of The Rogers Report.
First, some updates from my end: I moved to Boston, attended a LIV event last week and spent the better half of the past 24 hours on the phone with my sister, who ended up in urgent care after losing a battle (read: walked) a cactus in Arizona. Other than that, life goes on as usual! This may have been the first week of the PGA Tour’s short-term offset period, but there’s still a lot to talk about.
Also: Check out my Drop Zone podcast look! We’ve covered some notes from LIV Boston and much more:
Tiger at the US Open
Not at Brookline but folks, Eldrick still got to US Open this year. The 15-time main champ has gone to Queens to watch Serena Williams face (and beat) world number two Annette Kontaveit. This man had entered.
Check out that second picture! I can’t help but wonder if Tiger is that strong while watching Little League baseball or a kids’ soccer game, or if that level of focus is reserved for the absolute best. I can honestly see it going either way. But it is true that he seemed as focused on the Williams game as he often does on the golf course.
I would also like to take a moment to thank Serena Williams on behalf of all golf fans. We didn’t know how long it would be before the next Tiger Fist pump, and I brought one of them during the match.
Look at that! You can tell that he has had a lot of training to master this celebration. And to my loyal readers at home, the announcer got it wrong. he had five Background processes, not four.
Me too leaked Admire the way he has supported and inspired Tiger and Serena over the years. I even searched the Twitter archives to uncover these ancient gems.
Just two goats showing each other love! What’s better than that? Probably not much, except for the fact that Williams didn’t think she’d be friends with Tiger after meeting him for the first time, which I find funny. You must be one of the only people on this planet who have Ever This was the reaction. I know, I know, it was because she was a little terrified, but I can only imagine a lukewarm reaction to him. Imagine any golf fan meeting a Tiger and his or her takeaway is something like, “Ah, I’m not sure about that guy.”
Seriously, though, these interviews show how clearly they think about each other.
And of course, it wouldn’t be Tiger if he (or whoever runs his socialite) didn’t send a congratulatory tweet after all was said and done.
“my little sister!” I can’t imagine Serena being called so often by people other than Venus.
Finally, this tweet sums it all up. How lucky are we to have seen these two compete?
The Korda brothers take the US Open
Tiger wasn’t the only golfer in New York last week. The most talented trio of siblings of all time (this is the only time I’ll admit that this title doesn’t In fact I belong to two of my siblings and I) met after the Sebastian Korda US Open and we shared a meaningful moment.
I searched for the name “Korda” in Getty Images, and in the first two rows of photos all three siblings appeared: Jessica, Nelly and Sebastian. This should be some kind of record, I think. Anyway, it’s nice to see the coolest family in golf thrive in the Big Apple.
PGA Tour Vacations and Engagement
The two-week PGA Tour kicked off last week, and the pros are taking advantage of their time. Colin Morikawa He made a hole-in-one while playing David Lipsky and Alex Kang (yes, that’s Daniel’s brother) in Shadow Creek. And while this was happening, Al Shafel took a trip with Patrick Cantlay and Nikki Guidish to Napa. She looked beautiful.
It’s always surprising to see what the players are wearing turning off The course, but I’m glad I learned that Cantlay and Scheufele’s style is pretty much what I’ve come to expect from these two. I would say the only guys I was surprised with their everyday style were Tiger (because of those jeans) and Max Homa (more skater-dude vibes than I would have expected for a golfer). Some more pictures:
This sounded like a blast, although Pat Perez’s wife, Ashley, disagreed in a comment (which has since been deleted) on our Instagram.
I’m totally confused by this comment because a) it looks interesting and b) what kind of comment is this in the first place?
Just As I was wrapping up this week’s edition of The Rogers Report, we received some breaking news via Guidish’s Instagram: She and Patrick Cantlay They are engaged! For those of you who don’t know much about Cantlay’s new fiancée, Nikki Guidish graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2014 and then earned a professional doctorate in pharmacology from the University of South Florida. She is good friends with Schauffeles as well as Jena Sims, who is married to Brooks Koepka.
Looks like Gedish and Kantelay are engaged on vacation. Do we think the Schauffeles played a role in putting it all together, or at least keeping Gaedish distracted so that Cantlay could carry out his proposed plan?! I would like to know how all this happened.
The good news is that we now have Morikawa And the Cantlay weddings are in our future.
Tony Finau also seems to be making the most of a few weeks of rest at home.
It directs the exact energy that I channel between Christmas and New Years. It’s something I like to call “Grandpa Joe Time” inspired by Charlie’s grandfather in Willy Wonka. It’s basically when you do nothing but relax and sleep a little. Which Always aptly.
Finally, Lacey Homma welcomed her baby. Great hat, Max.
John Daly Being John Daly
It wouldn’t be a proper week in golf without John Daly turning heads, which is exactly what he did at the football game in Arkansas over the weekend. I would say the following sentence from Dali himself sums it up very well.
“Well, I’m not going to lie, I’m drunk.” This guy is the ultimate content machine! Fair enough, Mr. Daly and thank you for your honesty.
Big DJ win
You know it’s going to be a big week when we get Dustin Johnson’s workout video.
Kidding, but this video is so much fun to watch. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten some real social content from the Johnson-Gretzky crew, and I’m so happy to dip my toes in that water.
First, can we talk about it this hit?
When I make strokes, this is exactly how I make them. They don’t die in the hole. all or nothing. Ten feet from or outside the back of the cup and the inside. And then, for his coverage, the DJ spoke during the post-tour interview. Likes truly to speak.
Ninety seconds? That’s like, three years in the time of a DJ. I feel like I heard more of his voice in this interview than I’ve heard in years, and I’m not mad at him! Then came Polina, who gave birth to two sons, Tatum and River, on FaceTime. Hey guys, your dad just won $4 million. not important!
Then came the celebrations of DJ and his team.
I want you all to see these amazing DJ pictures.
I am obsessed with these photos. Partly because they’re a DJ, but also partly because they remind me So Lots of blurry photos we take in bars and college and then upload to a Facebook album with some encoded album titles. Either way, it was saved to your camera roll.
If there’s anything we know about the Gretzky-Johnson family, it’s that they love to party. The bachelor/bachelorette festivities were proof of that, but so were these posts from their own trip to Florida last night.
Gretzky spent a day exploring Harvard last week, and these sweatpants are from the bookstore. Who doesn’t love some good college visuals?
Finally, we got this picture of the entire DJ crew. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Joaquin Niemann had come home from these guys. I can’t help but wonder if Paulina asked him to take the photo above!
people are fine. Channel this energy: Live the day as if you were offered a flight home in a friend’s private jet. We’ll see you next week!
