This week saw the IFA 2022 show in Berlin, a major announcement from Sony, and the rapid debut of the iPhone 14 series on September 7.
The Sony Xperia 5 IV is official and offers a bigger 5,000mAh battery, wireless charging, a brighter screen, and a new 2.5x zoom camera instead of the old 3x-4.4x periscope. The Xperia 5 IV is already available to pre-order and ship later this month, starting at €1,049 in the EU, £949 in the UK and $999 in the US.
The Galaxy S22 series got a major update with the focus on improving the camera. HDR performance and color reproduction have been improved and you can now use the 3x zoom camera for Hyperlapse mode.
Apple will unveil the iPhone 14 series, Apple Watch Series 8, and possibly new AirPods Pro next week, and iPhone 14 rumors are now coming in fast and hot. The new dual aperture on the iPhone 14 Pro may appear as a single hole punch in the form of a pill with privacy indicators. Meanwhile, Samsung Display will supply 80% of panels for iPhone 14 series.
iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will get new ultrawide cameras, as well as new selfie sensors. Finally, Apple’s next iPhone SE may use the iPhone XR design, and finally break with the look of the old iPhone 7-slash-8.
Fans of foldable laptops have seen the announcement of two competitors in this segment – the 17.3-inch Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED and 16.3-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022. Both can be used as stand-alone monitors, tablets or folded as a laptop, and both will cost an arm and a leg – Lenovo will order $2,499 for the ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 when it begins shipping in November, while Asus’ Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will be available in the fourth quarter for €3,999 / $3,499.
